Prepaid Electricity Token Calculator Nigeria
Methodology
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) Multi-Year Tariff Order (MYTO) governs electricity rates across all 11 distribution companies (DisCos). When you recharge prepaid meters in Nigeria, 7.5% Value Added Tax (VAT) is legally deducted from the gross purchase amount before dividing by the approved tariff per kilowatt-hour (kWh). Service bands categorize consumers by minimum guaranteed hours of supply: Band A (minimum 20 hours/day at ~₦206.80/kWh), Band B (16–20 hours), Band C (12–16 hours), Band D (8–12 hours), and Band E (4–8 hours).

Frequently asked questions
How are electricity token units calculated in Nigeria?
First, 7.5% VAT is deducted from your purchase amount (Net Amount = Gross Amount / 1.075). The net amount is then divided by your DisCo’s approved tariff per kWh for your feeder band to determine the exact units credited.
What is the current Band A electricity tariff in Nigeria?
Following NERC MYTO revisions, Band A customers receiving at least 20 hours of daily supply are billed at approximately ₦206.80 to ₦209.50 per kWh depending on the specific DisCo.
Why did my token units decrease compared to previous recharges?
Unit decreases typically result from feeder band upgrades (e.g., Band B upgraded to Band A tariff), tariff rate adjustments by NERC, or outstanding debt deductions if your meter carries legacy estimated billing arrears.
